Glastonbury Festival 2013

The Green Crafts Field

Greencrafts are delighted to again be hosting one of the biggest outdoor crafts events in the world at the fantastic Glastonbury Festival!

International leaders pioneering the ‘Wild Side to Craft’ festi goers love the vibrant craft village, full to the brim of creative spirits, open early Wednesday morning and running right through to Sunday evening, one field down from the Stone Circle.

Savvy festi goers know this is one of the coolest vibes on-site, a ‘must do’ and the best place to go make your own fab festi souvenir to take home.

The field gets up early & works late offering loads of hands-on creative workshops. Everyone’s welcome, beginners to the more experienced and children accompanied by an adult.

You can choose your material; from soft ‘n’ fluffy to sharp and hot ! There’s kilns & forges, treddle sewing machines & looms, axes & lathes plus loads more with teams of skilled and selected makers who lead the Greencrafts workshops in jewellery, wood, metal & stone plus ceramics & textiles.

Fore-runners in sustainable practice, the Greencrafts Village works totally off-grid with all their power coming from the wind the sun and the people. Craftspeople have for centuries quietly led green lifestyles, sustaining nature for raw materials and adapting to maximise local resources while preserving knowledge, heritage & skill. It’s retaining & using this knowledge that’s integral to all our future sustainability.

At Glasto, the festi goer can claim a slice of the action of Greencrafts linked up thinking: of philosophy mixed with practicality, of labour and ethics, of community and transition of aspiration and reality; celebrating traditional craft that’s relevant in today’s world while partying and spreading the positive vibe !

There’s beautiful sculptures and gardens to sit and relax in while soaking up the buzzing energy. Everyone works outa unique temporary shelters: yurts, bow top wagons, tents of all shapes ‘n’ sizes plus the odd classic vehicle.

Each night at dusk, the entire field becomes a magical wonderland with hundreds of candle lanterns.

There’s a daily ‘Happy Hour’ in the field, 10-11am when all activities with Greencrafts are totally free of charge. Every day they’ll also be further assortments of free activities – check the info notice board at the field crossroads where there’s also a full listing all the other activities and workshops to choose from.

Workshops are arranged in groupings of materials – so you’ll find all those making jewellery near to each other, the wood the same etc. Many workshops are free and drop-by, some are bookable directly with the crafter in their space with a small materials charge.

As well as making your own magical reminders of Glasto 11, some of the craftspeople have beautiful one-off objects on display and some are for sale – please ask if you’re interested.

The Greencrafts Village is an area of wonder and enchantment, fun and excitement, a place to exchange ideas and try something new.

We look forward to seeing you there

Nic Piper & Marie Brett.
