Arcadia’s Pangea: a primordial world of infinite possibility

Last modified: May 24, 2019

Arcadia have revealed the first details of their new arena at the Festival.

A primordial world of possibility, Arcadia’s Pangea takes inspiration from the prehistoric supercontinent where every land on earth was one and the future was yet to be written. The new installation is exclusive to Glastonbury and will evolve over the next five years.

A giant 50 meter high structure built from an old dock crane sits at Pangea’s heart, repurposed after decades of service at Avonmouth docks and as old as the festival itself. Doing what they do best, Arcadia have bypassed traditional set building to rescue a towering symbol of Somerset’s industrial heritage. Built to last by the pioneering engineering company Stothert and Pitt who were in the Industrial Revolution’s vanguard, the dock crane has a rich history at the crossroads of international trade. Its first life may be over, but the next is just beginning.

Arcadia have always evolved shows and installations organically over time and Pangea is set to be the biggest adventure yet – guided by crowd interaction and a collaborative momentum that harnesses skills and ideas from all walks of life.

In terms of scale and tonnage, the central crane is Arcadia’s most ambitious engineering project to date and the logistics of its installation have been eye watering, while the crane’s monumental beauty and the blank canvas it unlocks in the sky open a thrilling new dimension.

The Park returns for 2019 with new creations and locations!

Last modified: May 28, 2019

Sitting high on the hill above the site looking down towards the Tor, The Park is a treasure trove of welcoming, boundary-challenging venues and bustling bars, with a main stage hosting everything from breaking pop and indie acts to RnB and electronica, watched over by its very own rainbow-clad Ribbon Tower.

Having celebrated ten years of The Park at the last Festival, the year off has allowed The Park team to come back with many changes, new creations and locations; from the newly-updated Park Stage and Stonebridge Bar to the brand new Humblewell – a daytime wellness wonderland which at dusk morphs into late-night jazz home, The Wormhole.

There’s also a new Sculpture Garden with work from acclaimed artists alongside the pleasingly hard-to-find Rabbit Hole, The Bimble Inn, HMS Sweet Charity and The Crow’s Nest, which hosts music and the inspiring speakers of The Free University Of Glastonbury.

Find out lots more at The Park’s area page.
