The Beat Hotel announces its 2016 plans

Last modified: June 10, 2016

Setting up on the main drag between the Pyramid and Other stages back in 2011, the Beat Hotel arrived with the mantra EAT, DRINK, DANCE emblazoned on the iconic sign outside. A simple yet seemingly effective summary of what has been, and is, on offer, the venue has since grown each year, becoming a mainstay of the Festival, situated in the markets between Silver Hayes, John Peel and the Pyramid.

With an extensive cocktail menu, American-style BBQ fare and a music programme running from 10am-3am every day, the Beat Hotel returns for its 5th year this year, and in a new location. Head 70m west of where it has been previously, in the direction of Silver Hayes.

Check out their 2016 plans here.

Tracy Harrison (1965 – 2016)

It’s with enormous sadness that we report that one of the Festival’s most senior, longstanding and beloved crew members, Tracy Harrison, passed away yesterday.

Tracy began working for Glastonbury in 1992, and went on to oversee the Festival’s toilet provision, which was vastly improved under her passionate and knowledgeable stewardship.

But even more than that, Tracy was a true festival spirit with a huge heart and an incredible knack for making everyone she came into contact with feel like they were the centre of her world.

Tracy will be very sadly missed here at Worthy Farm, where she’d often be seen driving around the site in her telehandler, ready to help out and advise on another big project.

Our love and thoughts are with her family.

Three actual UK premieres (Sidemen: Long road to Glory, Hired Gun and Born to be Blue). Silent movies re-scored by a live band! Advance screenings! Animation challenge! Director Q&A! The Pilton Palais‘s film festival in a field is looking pretty amazing at Glastonbury 2016.

You’ll find the cinema tent near the Acoustic Stage, with screenings running late into the night. Until then, check out their Area page for all the info and show times.

This year Croissant Neuf in the Green Fields marks 30 years at Glastonbury – and they’ve bagged a very special guest performer to celebrate! We’re very pleased to announce that Travis will play in the field’s solar-powered tent on Saturday 25th at 4pm.

Fuelled by solar power, subtle solutions and a sheer determination to live a harmonious and sustainable lifestyle with our planet and each other, the Croissant Neuf ethos is that of mixing back-to-basics simplicity with modern-day technologies and solutions.

In the Croissant Neuf Field you can chat to experts who are already living by these ideas, beliefs and practicalities. You can find solutions and answers to your questions from Solar Energy Alliance and leading pioneers Wind & Sun. You can visit Bristol-based Ecomotive for advice, discussions and solutions for your self-build project.

For lots more info on Croissant Neuf – including a history of the field – head to their Area page

Michael Eavis: Why you should vote to Remain In

Last modified: June 7, 2016

Your ‘five a day’ why you should vote to Remain In:

1. We’re one of the few really successful economies in the world at the moment – why change a winning streak?

2. The Iraq war is the worst foreign policy decision of the last 50 years. Where was that decision made? In our very own parliament. If only we had consulted with our friendly European neighbours, who were dead against the war. Just think of all the horror that followed – and is continuing to this day.

3. All the most comforting human rights and working conditions of the last twenty years have been introduced by the European politicians. Let’s all be thankful for that.

4. All the best car manufacturers around the world have invested huge sums to build the most modern car factories in the world here in the UK. Why? To sell their cars and trucks into the single market. And they employ tens of thousand of workers here in the UK.

5. Finally, British agriculture is better protected by the E.U. because there are millions of farmers throughout Europe who they care about. I dread to think of a free market with our food needs. I think that a large proportion of our farmers would go bust.

Euro 2016 games won’t be screened at this year’s Festival

Last modified: June 3, 2016

With this summer’s Euro 2016 tournament in France fast approaching, we have being asked about our plans for screening any matches during the Festival. With the kick-off times of the tournament potentially clashing with headline sets, the decision has been taken that no matches from the tournament will be shown at Glastonbury this year.

We’d like to take this opportunity to wish the home nations all the best at Euro 2016, and we very much hope they will still be involved in the tournament once the Festival is over for another year.
