Glastonbury Festival and Stella McCartney release upcycled vest in aid of War Child

Last modified: May 26, 2022

Glastonbury Festival and Stella McCartney have today announced the release of a special, limited edition upcycled vest to be sold in support of War Child’s Emergency Fund which is helping children caught in Ukraine, and other conflicts.

The vest is on sale now in the official Glastonbury shop.

In 2007, Stella McCartney designed a limited edition vest which was sold for charity at that year’s Glastonbury Festival. The design, which features a blue sky, green field and psychedelic rainbow, was inspired by the Seventies airbrushed t- shirts her Mum and Dad used to get made.

The vest has gone on to become a rare collector’s item, but a recent warehouse audit unveiled several boxes of vests which had not been sold.

Staying true to Stella McCartney’s ethos and principles to reduce our impact on the planet the original vests have now been upcycled and repurposed with a new mushroom artwork celebrating fungi as the future of fashion and our planet.

These limited edition vests are on sale now via Glastonbury’s official online shop, with all proceeds going to War Child’s Emergency Fund.

20 further affordable social homes to be built in Pilton

Last modified: May 19, 2022

It’s been announced today that an additional 20 social homes are to be built in Pilton, on land donated by the Festival on condition that the homes will serve the local community in perpetuity. This will bring the total number of homes for the project, which was started by Michael Eavis in 1996, to 52.

Housing association, The Guinness Partnership, have held an event to celebrate breaking ground on new development. Guinness are working with the contractor EG Carter & Co Ltd who have commenced works on site.

Michael Eavis said: “Pilton is really important to me – it’s where I was born, where I have lived man and boy, where I have brought up my family, and, of course, it has been home to the festival for more than 50 years now. With rural house prices so often out of reach for local people, this gives villagers, most of whom are working families who live around here, the opportunity to live here for the rest of their lives at a social rent. I started to build these houses 45 years ago with funding from the government and when this scheme is finished, it will bring the total number of houses available to 52. Of all the things I’ve done in my life this is the one I’m most proud of. The Guinness Partnership has really understood what I wanted to achieve and worked with us to ensure the houses fit with the style of the village. I’m really looking forward to seeing the houses being built, people moving in and raising a new generation to enjoy this beautiful area for years to come.”

Lewis McLaughlin wins 2022 Emerging Talent Competition

Last modified: May 3, 2022

After a truly wonderful night of live performances at Pilton Working Men’s Club, Scottish singer-songwriter Lewis McLaughlin (pictured above) was named the winner of our 2022 Emerging Talent Competition, which is supported by PRS for Music and the PRS Foundation. Lewis wins a slot on one of the Festival’s main stages, plus a £5,000 Talent Development prize from the PRS Foundation.

The judges – who included Emily Eavis, Glastonbury stage bookers and music business professionals – awarded the two runners up places to rapper Crae Wolf and indie-rockers English Teacher. Both acts receive a £2,500 Talent Development prize from the PRS Foundation.

While announcing the winners, Emily Eavis also revealed that all seven acts on a night of powerful performances will be given slots at this year’s Festival.

The night also featured a sparkling appearance from the 2020 winner R.A.E who won the competition during the 2020 lockdown, and will finally get her slot at this year’s Festival.

Unfortunately, Smoothboi Ezra had to withdraw from the finals due to illness – but will be given a chance to perform as part of the 2023 final.

Here are our photos from a fantastic night at the Working Men’s Club.

We’re excited to announce that this year’s Glastonbury Abbey Extravaganza – which will be headlined by Paloma Faith on Saturday, August 6th, 2022 – will also feature a performance from the acclaimed American musician, Seasick Steve.

Said Steve: “I live in the world of going out and rocking. We do our best, every night. If someone has taken the trouble to spend their money to come and see us play, then we owe them to deliver. We rock. That’s what we do.”

Tickets are on sale now, costing £40 for adults and £20 for children aged up to 16. Any remaining tickets will cost £45 / £25 on the gate.
