2011 ticket resale date confirmed

Last modified: March 25, 2011

The resale of cancelled/refunded tickets for this year’s Festival will take place at 9am on Sunday, 17th April 2011.

Tickets will be sold online at www.seetickets.com/g2011 and via the Seetickets booking line 0844 412 4635. The number of tickets available is expected to be quite limited, because these are returns, not a second batch. Tickets will be limited to four per transaction.

In order to purchase tickets in the re-sale, you must be successfully registered by Friday, 8th April. Registration will then close until after the resale. Register online at www.glastonburyregistration.co.uk.

If you’re already registered, then we strongly suggest you check your details by visiting seetickets.com/see/getglas as soon as possible (this link will also close before the resale).

For more information about ticket sales and registration, please visit our ticket information page.

As well as standard Festival tickets (costing £195 + £5 booking fee), there will be a number of Combined Coach and Festival Tickets on sale. These tickets include either single or return coach tickets from a range of locations around the UK.

Travelling to the Festival by coach helps substantially to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions produced by Glastonbury – as audience transport actually contributes to two thirds of the Festival’s total emissions.  Traveling by coach also reduces the number of cars on the road which means less traffic queuing to enter the site and less CO2 emissions from cars in slow traffic approaching the site.

This year, for the first time, ticket holders who arrive at the Festival by public transport or bicycle will be given a Green Traveller lanyard, offering discount meal vouchers, exclusive solar showers, access to compost toilets and a discount on a Festival T-shirt.

We have strived to make this year’s coach packages as affordable as possible, with all fares lower than 2010 rates. The full timetable and price list for these tickets is shown below (the price will be added to the cost of the ticket in the combined packages).

Do you have a Great Big Green Idea?

Last modified: March 24, 2011

Our friends at A Greener Festival have launched their annual competition for Great Big Green Ideas. The competition is open to all festival fans to suggest new ideas to promote environmental friendliness at festivals and get events greener. Some of the very best ideas that improve festivals come from the people that go to them and AGF want to ask YOU how you want to get greener. Abandoned tents and personal carbon footprints to and from festivals are just two of the things AGF want festival-goers to think about.

Sometimes really simple ideas are the best, so any ideas on reducing waste, recycling and preventing pollution would be really welcome as well. Last year’s ideas including the winning entry from Natalie Porter which developed a scheme to reduce food waste at festivals. The runners-up included a very clever idea from Gearoid Maher called “Reduction by Inflation”, focusing on reducing emissions from private cars, by offering a free tyre check and inflation service to all vehicles queuing to enter festival car parks and Ben Harris’s plans to convert human waste into free energy – by “putting the ‘pee’ back into power”.

Great Big Green Ideas 2011 should be emailed to agreenerfestival@aol.com. Please put ‘Great Big Green Idea’ in the subject box. They need to be in English or with an English translation and should be no more than 100 words long. They need to be received by midnight on April 30th 2011. The judges’ decisions are final and the best ideas will be published on AGF’s website.

The top entries will be put into a draw for one winning and two runners-up festival goodie bags each of which will include various music CDs and DVDs and other festival swag.

You can find out more about the competition and A Greener Festival at www.agreenerfestival.com.

When paying your balance you will be given the opportunity to combine your Festival tickets with coach travel to the Festival from locations across the UK. As part of the continued effort by Seetickets and Glastonbury Festival to reduce the carbon emissions from audience transport, we have strived to make these coach packages as affordable as possible, with all fares lower than 2010 rates. These packages are only available when paying for your ticket balance, so don’t miss out. The full timetable and price list for these tickets is shown below:

You will also be giving the option of booking ticket cancellation cover, car park tickets, campervan tickets and tipis whilst paying your balance.

Oxfam open Japan appeal

Last modified: March 18, 2011

Following the severe earthquake which struck the north-east coast of Japan on 11 March, causing a major tsunami and serious damage across northern Japan, a massive relief operation is now underway. That involves the government, the army and civil society. Oxfam UK’s sister organisation Oxfam Japan is raising money for several local organisations active in the disaster areas.

“The Japanese state has the means to reach 99% of the population but there will always be some who need more specific assistance,” said Oxfam Japan Executive Director, Akiko Mera, from Tokyo.

Emerging Talent Competition shortlist revealed

Last modified: March 14, 2011

Following an intense judging session at the Festival office in Glastonbury last week, we’re pleased to reveal that our longlist of 123 acts has been narrowed down to the eight who will compete in the Emerging Talent Competitions live finals at the beginning of April. They are, in alphabetical order: Emily and the WoodJ Treole, Louise And The Pins, My First Tooth, My Tiger My Timing, Treetop Flyers, Tristram and Twin Brother. You can hear all eight on the player below:

Said the judges: “The standard of acts on the ETC longlist really was very high – for which we have to thank the blogger judging panel. It certainly wasn’t easy to whittle them down to just eight artists for the live finals. But, after much tea and heated debate, we think we’ve come up with a great selection of acts, all of whom have a real chance of winning the main stage slot at this year’s Festival. Bring on the finals!”

The live finals take place in Pilton on Saturday, April 2nd. Although the event is invite-only, we will, once again, be streaming the entire show live via the official Glastonbury website.

Meanwhile, the full longlist of 123 acts has been forwarded to all of the Festival’s stage programmers, so there is still a chance that some of them will end up with a booking.

Worthy FM launches audio archive on new website

Last modified: March 11, 2011

We’re pleased to report that Worthy FM 87.7, the on-site radio station for the Glastonbury Festival, has recently launched its own website at www.worthyfm.com.

As well as all the information about the station, the site contains a selection of the best features and interviews recorded during last year’s festival, including chats with Damon Albarn, the Scissor Sisters and Tinchy Stryder. Visitors can listen online or download the features as MP3s to listen to later.

The new website also contains information about a competition to win a place as part of the Worthy FM crew for the 2011 Festival (closing date 19th March 2011). Click here for all the details on that.

Emerging Talent Competition longlist announced

Last modified: March 7, 2011

We are very pleased and excited to announce the 123 acts who’ve made it to the longlist of our 2011 Emerging Talent Competition. These acts have all been chosen by our blogger judging panel, made up of the UK’s finest music bloggers – a massive thanks to them for all their hard work and to all of the acts who entered the competition (we were genuinely blown away by the response).

Each of the bloggers has chosen their favourite three acts, as listed below in the order we received them (where a blog has supplied more than one judge, the name of that judge is in brackets). Particular thanks to Dots and Dashes, Bitter Fingers and The Devil Has The Best Tuna who each judged an extra selection of bands after one judge pulled out. Those selections are the last ones on the list.

We’ve included the direct link that each of the acts provided for the judges to hear their music – and thoroughly recommend that you check some of them out. Several of the judges told us it was incredibly difficult to pick just three acts (and many of them wrote about more than three on their blogs).

Later this week, these acts will be narrowed down to a shortlist of just 8 acts who will compete at April’s live finals for a main stage slot at this year’s Festival. They will be chosen by the final judging panel which consists of the following 10 judges: Michael Eavis (Glastonbury organiser), Emily Eavis (Glastonbury organiser), Nick Dewey (main stages programmer), Martin Elbourne (main stages programmer), Malcolm Haynes (Dance Village programmer), Steve Symons (West Holts programmer), Philippa Aylott (Radio One producer), Angus Baskerville (live agent), Paul Charles (agent/promoter/manager) and Chris Salmon (music journalist).
