International balance payments due Feb 25th to March 3rd

Last modified: February 24, 2011

A reminder that if you have paid a deposit for a ticket registered to an address outside the UK, your ticket balance payment will be due between 9am GMT, Friday 25th February and 11.59pm GMT, Thursday 3rd March 2011.

You can make your balance payment online at http://www2.seetickets.com/g2011/. You will need the registration number and registered postcode (or equivalent information provided when registering) for each ticket for which you are paying the balance. You can check your registration details by clicking here.

The balance due is £145 (plus a £5 booking fee) per person.

We are pleased to announce that Seetickets will once again be providing exclusive combined coach and Festival tickets for Glastonbury Festival. Once you have paid your balance you will be given the option to combine your Festival tickets with coach travel to the Festival from locations across the UK. As part of the continued effort by Seetickets and Glastonbury Festival to reduce the carbon emissions from audience transport, we have strived to make these coach packages as affordable as possible, with all fares lower than 2010 rates.

These packages are only available when paying for your ticket balance, so don’t miss out. The full timetable and price list for these tickets is shown below:

You will also be giving the option of booking ticket cancellation cover, car park tickets, campervan tickets and tipis whilst paying your balance.

Any international tickets for which the balance is not paid by March 3rd will be cancelled and
you will receive a £40 refund per ticket to the card that was used during the booking.

Balance payments for UK registered tickets are due April 1st – 7th 2011.

U2 announced as Friday headliners

Last modified: February 23, 2011

We’re very pleased to announce that U2 are the third headliner joining Beyoncé and Coldplay on the bill for Glastonbury 2011. Having been forced to cancel their scheduled Friday night performance in 2010, the Irish rock legends will headline the Pyramid Stage on the Friday at this year’s Festival (June 24th).

The news was announced at this evening’s NME Awards, via a video message from The Edge, who was congratulating Michael and Emily Eavis on winning the Best Festival award.

Said Michael Eavis: “After the disappointment of U2 being unable to play last year, we’re now doubly excited at the prospect of the Friday night supergroup breaking the sound barrier.”

Said The Edge, in his video message: “It’s more a way of life than a festival. I made it last year to the Friday show – got to play with Muse, got to hang out, ate a veggie burger and fries, and got to play on the Pyramid Stage. I have to say there is something really special and iconic about that stage. So we’re all looking forward to coming back to pick up where I left off. And we’re so excited to get to play in front of the world’s greatest festival audience. We’ll see you there.”

Become a Green Traveller and enjoy the benefits!

As one of the world’s largest outdoor gatherings, Glastonbury Festival is totally committed to reducing carbon emissions – and to raising awareness of what can be done to help combat climate change. As part of that message, the Festival wants to reward people for choosing to come to Somerset by public transport or by bicycle. So, this year, for the first time, we have put together a Glastonbury Festival Green Traveller package which we hope will provide an extra incentive for you and your friends to “go Green”.

Ticket holders who arrive at the Festival by public transport or bicycle will be given a Green Traveller lanyard, offering:

– Vouchers for discounts on main meals
– Solar showers, solely provided for Green Travellers
– Access to compost toilets
– Discount on a Festival T-shirt

Over 50 per cent of Glastonbury Festival’s CO2 total emissions come from how “you” the Festival goer make your way to the site. We understand that public transport can be expensive and we are working on trying to keep the prices fair.

And yes, we know that getting on a train or bus isn’t necessarily as easy as jumping in a car parked outside your house. But once you have decided to head for your bike, the bus stop or the train station, we’ll do our best to make Festival life a little bit easier for you – from the moment you’re dropped right by the gate!

We’ll be posting more information on the Green Traveller scheme (and how it will work) soon…

Calling all poets, bards, rappers, spoken word artists and versifiers…

The people who run Glastonbury’s wonderful Poetry&Words tent are now taking applications for performers at this year’s Festival.

If you are an experienced writer and performer, then please drop them a line.  As ever, they are looking to showcase a wide range of voices from a variety of different backgrounds and poetic styles. (They are looking for top quality performers, not those who have just penned a few limericks or dabbled in a couple of open mics.)

To give you an idea of what they are after, the tent’s 2010 line-up bill featured John Hegley, Jean ‘Binta’ Breeze, Dizraeli and The Small Gods, Attila the Stockbroker, Luke Wright and many other talented folk.

To apply, please e-mail poetryandwords@hotmail.co.uk, with a copy of your artistic C.V. and a link to audio and/or visual recordings of your work. If you wish to apply by post, please e-mail us to request our postal address.

Closing date: Midnight on Sunday 6th March 2011. Applications will not be considered if received after this date.

Ticket resale update

Last modified: February 18, 2011

A lot of you have been getting in touch to ask about the upcoming ticket resale, so we thought we’d post a little update. The resale is likely to be in mid-April after people have had chance to pay their balances. At the moment, it doesn’t look like there will be too many cancelled tickets to go back on sale, though.

We’ll let you know firm details of the resale well in advance, here on the official site.

Emily: “I was blown away by the might of Beyonce’s show”

Last modified: February 15, 2011

We gave Glastonbury co-organiser Emily Eavis a shout to catch up about the recent headliner announcements and to find out how preparations for this year’s Festival are coming along.

Hi Emily, how are you?
Good thanks. It’s been pretty hectic here, with lots going on. Things always change gear in January and the year has kicked off at a pace. It’s looking set to be a great one, though – we’re making lots of improvements across the site, so it’s easier to move about and better all round. We’re always trying to make it better.

So, there’s been some big Glastonbury news in recent days. Firstly, Beyoncé announced that she’s headlining the Sunday night this year.
Yeah, it’s great to get that out there. I went to see her live last year and was blown away by the might of the show. She has such soul, an amazing voice with an incredible, all-female band. She knows how to deliver live, and she packs a big punch – it’s gonna explode! And she is, I believe, the first female solo artist to headline, so it’s a big moment for us. What better way to see off the Festival till 2013?

Why did you guys decide to book her?
We are really keen to keep the line-up as diverse as possible. It’s always been that way. We really want the people who are the masters of their fields, and that’s what she is.

Then, of course, Coldplay were confirmed as Saturday’s headliners today.
Yes, we were really lucky to get them. It’s been a while since they came and played here, so I think this will be a big one. They’re one of the great Glastonbury bands, that really get what we’re about and that have supported us through some tricky times.

As your dad said, they really have grown up with the Festival.
Yeah, they started on the John Peel tent in 1999, then moved to the Other Stage in 2000 [pic, left], before making a huge jump to Pyramid headliners 2002. There aren’t many bands that rise that fast. They are loved here, and deliver such powerful live shows – it will be awesome.

And we gather from Coldplay’s Twitter page that Chris Martin was down at the farm at the weekend?
Yes, they came to look at the farm and the field to start planning their show.

Will more line-up details be released soon?
Yes. We hope to give you some more names soon – as soon as we can, in fact. We would love to tell you everything right now if we could, but many stages aren’t quite finished and many bands are announcing tours or big gigs first. We are working on getting it out there before very long though, so thanks for your patience and please bear with us.

How are the rest of the preparations coming along?
Really well, thanks. We’re working on expanding the late night areas – Shangri-la, Arcadia, Block 9, Common etc – as it got pretty busy down there last year. We also have the new addition of the 1971 Stage, which should be interesting. It will be featuring artists from the 71 Festival. Plus, Leftfield is moving back to its old home, by the Leftfield tower. So, yeah, lots going on right now.

Do you think that with 2012 being a year off, you’re even more determined to make 2011 a good one?
Yes, absolutely. We feel really lucky to have gathered together such an exciting bill for a start. All the areas have great plans and people are working like mad across the site to make it brilliant. There’s a feeling in the air that it’s the last hurrah before the year off and hopefully a suitable climax to the amazing run of the past five years. We’re trying our best to make it as good as possible… and we’re definitely getting closer!

Coldplay announced as Saturday night headliners

Last modified: February 15, 2011

We’re very pleased to confirm that Coldplay will be the Saturday night Pyramid Stage headliners at this year’s Glastonbury Festival.

“Coldplay have played such a major part in the Festival over the last 10 years or so,” said Glastonbury organiser Michael Eavis. “As their popularity grew around the world I was so proud of them. This is the triumphant return of a band that everyone here feels part of. They’re one of the greatest phenomena to grow from these fields.”

This will be the world-conquering group’s first Glastonbury show since their triumphant 2005 performance. In 1999, Coldplay made their Glastonbury debut in the New Bands Tent, weeks after signing their record deal. Just three years later, they made their first appearance as Pyramid Stage headliners, shortly before the release of their Rush Of Blood To The Head album propelled them to global success. We can’t wait to welcome them back again.

Tickets for Glastonbury 2011 have Sold Out, but a limited resale of cancelled tickets is expected in April. For more information, click here

Chefs still needed for this year’s Festival

Last modified: February 8, 2011

UPDATE: We now have enough kitchen helpers (thanks everyone), but we are still looking for more experienced/qualified chefs and cooks. If you’re interested, please read the info below. Thanks.

Cooks and chefs needed – 27.01.11

To cater for 1,000 site staff around this year’s Festival, we are looking for experienced/qualified chefs and cooks, as well as kitchen helpers who need to be hard working, but not necessarily qualified.

They will either be employed from the beginning June until mid July; or from 16th June – 2nd July. Shifts will be about 8 hours a day, with some early and some late shifts.

All chefs will be paid. They will also get a staff pass to the Festival. Please note that these establishments will be open during the Festival so you will be required to work some shifts at this time. This is hard work, rather then just an easy way into the Festival.

Staff will have to bring their own camping equipment, but food, showers and washing machines are provided.

If you are interested please send a CV detailing relevant experience and any food hygiene or other qualifications to worthy@glastonburyfestivals.co.uk – stipulating whether you are looking to be employed for two weeks or seven weeks.

Thank you.
