Potential England World Cup match won't be screened at Glastonbury 2014
14th April 2014
Should England’s football team qualify from the group stages to the knock out rounds of this summer’s World Cup in Brazil, their match in the Last 16 is scheduled to either take place at 9pm UK time on the Saturday of Glastonbury (if they finish second in their group) or 9pm UK time on the Sunday of Glastonbury (if they win their group).
In previous years, we have endeavoured to show England’s matches on big screens where possible (other nations’ matches have not been shown). However, with the potential England matches clashing with the headline sets at this year’s Festival, the decision has been made that – should England qualify from their group – their last 16 match will not be shown at Glastonbury 2014.
As England’s final group game takes place at 5pm UK time on Tuesday, June 24th (the evening before Glastonbury 2014 begins), it won’t be known until then whether or not England will actually play a match during the Festival. But, as we are already being asked about our plans, we wanted to let everyone know well in advance that the decision has been made not to screen the potential match.
We’d also like to take this opportunity to wish Roy Hodgson’s side all the best in Brazil. And we very much hope that we’ll all be able to watch England playing a Quarter Final match on the 4th or 5th of July.
