Help create the biggest human Peace sign at Glastonbury

Last modified: June 12, 2017

The Green Fields are inviting you to come and join them at the Stone Circle in the Kings Meadow at 12noon on Thursday 22nd June, to help send message of peace to the world by creating the biggest human Peace sign ever (the record to date is 5,814 people). They’d like you to stand together and feel the love, light and joy of being united amongst the free thinkers, to show we are in this together and we all have a voice.

We spoke to Beth Llewellyn, the organiser of the Peace Garden in the Green Fields, who had the idea for the human Peace sign:

“I’ve been involved in creating the Peace Garden in the Green Fields for many years, and I’d been thinking about how there are so many more people in this world who want peace than there are with anger in their hearts. Peace starts within ourselves, and Glastonbury Festival really is built with the power of love from the whole crew. So when I was working on a new part of the Peace Garden and I saw a drawing of the peace sign in the soil, I thought, ‘Why don’t we get together the fields, and make this sign around the stone circle with people whose intent is for peace and not to be threatened by the few?’ We’re just doing it for love. I’m really looking forward to it.”

Last modified: June 12, 2017

We’re very pleased to announce three major new additions to the Glastonbury 2017 line-up.

First of all, legendary Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher is confirmed to bring his new solo project to The Other Stage on Saturday 24th June at 5.45pm.

We’re also excited to report that the Festival will welcome its first ever astronaut! Mike Massimino is an American engineer and NASA astronaut, who flew on two shuttle missions to repair the Hubble Telescope. He will be speaking at the The Free University of Glastonbury, whose programme of talks take place in the Crow’s Nest at the top of The Park. Massimino will appear at 2pm on Friday 23rd June.

Finally, we can also reveal that Hollywood superstar Johnny Depp is the guest of honour at our new drive-in movie area, Cineramageddon. The actor will will introduce his personal choice of films, screening through the night on Thursday 22nd June, and discuss his selections with Cineramageddon curator Julien Temple. Click here for the Cineramageddon area pages and listings. Each of Depp’s choices has a special significance to the actor:

THE LIBERTINE: “This is one of those films that got lost in the shuffle. It’s a film that a lot of people on which worked very hard, and one that I am very proud of.”

WITHNAIL & I: “No film has ever made me laugh more, or filled me with so much joy… and dread! For me, this is perfect cinema. Genius.”

DEAD MAN: “Jim Jarmuch’s epic visual poem. It’s unlike anything else. A film which means many different things to many different people.”

We can also reveal the full Glastonbury 2017 line-up poster, designed by Alister Sieghart (who has designed Glastonbury’s official posters and tickets for decades).

We’re delighted to confirm that our sustainable, recycled stainless steel pint cups are back for this year’s Festival – and they’re now available from more than half of the bars.

Whenever you see a ‘steel cup’ sign you’ll be able to exchange your cup. We recycle our paper cups but having something you can reuse for life is much better. You don’t even have to buy a steel cup, you can pay the £5 deposit when you first pick one up, use it for the whole Festival, then return it for a full refund at the Information Points! Or you can choose to take it home and continue to use it.

The stainless pint cups are the first of their kind and are made of food grade 80 per cent recycled British stainless steel.

Download our 2017 app + keep your phone charged

Last modified: June 7, 2017

We’re pleased to report that the official Glastonbury 2017 mobile app is now available to download, for free. The app, which has been built by EE, is the only official mobile app for this year’s Festival. It’s available for devices using Apple iOS and Android. Click the buttons below to download the app now.

The app allows you to build your personal line-up and connect to Facebook so you can see what your mates plan to see. It also features an interactive map, allowing you to share map pins to help coordinate places to meet, or show people where your tent is.

Plus, you can keep up with the latest Festival news and – if you allow notifications (which we would recommend) – get major updates direct to your home screen.

KEEP YOUR MOBILE CHARGED

EE is, once again, also providing free mobile charging in their recharge tent at this year’s Festival (whatever network you’re on).

Plus, you can buy a Juice Tube Power Bank, to keep your phone charged all through the festival. You’ll be able to swap your Juice Tube for a fully charged one, once every day at Glastonbury Festival 2017. Click here for more info and to order one.

Introducing Cineramageddon!

Last modified: June 12, 2017

Brand spanking new for 2017 is Cineramageddon, a five day film festival within the Festival, conceived and curated by director Julien Temple, presenting a new kind of rock ‘n’ roll cinema attitude, outside and under the stars (on the South West corner of the site).

Screening must-see movies with legendary renegade movie guests, in a drive-in auditorium created by artist Joe Rush featuring seventy mutated vintage cars, repurposed funfair rides and a Lear jet.

“Glastonbury is the only place in rain soaked Brexit Britain where an outdoor post apocalyptic drive-in cinema can possibly work.” Julien Temple

From Wednesday night through to dawn on Monday, Cineramageddon will present a midsummer movie explosion that will take you on a thrilling cinematic journey through the Glastonbury night and out the other side.

Get on your bike to Glastonbury!

Last modified: June 3, 2017

Did you know the Festival has a dedicated campsite for cyclists (with showers)? You can also have your luggage brought to the site from a range of locations!

The “Bike to Glasto” service is for cyclists who want to ride to the Festival independently and lock their bikes up for free during the Festival.

Cyclists can also choose to use a return luggage transport service from one of more than a dozen luggage drop-off locations in Bristol and across Somerset – and London! – for a small charge.

The information and booking website is www.biketoglasto.co.uk.  To keep in touch follow them on Twitter and the Bike to Glasto Facebook group.

Those wishing to make their own, self-contained way to the Festival by bike are still welcome to come. The Festival site is just a few miles south of Route 3 of the National Cycle Network, which runs between Glastonbury and Wells. For route planning advice, check out Cycle Streets’ Glastonbury Route Planner.

If you’re coming on your bicycle, please follow signs for Yellow Gate, and then you’ll be directed towards the cycle lock-up which is adjacent to Pedestrian Gate A (PGA).

Theatre & Circus reveal Stayin’ Alive flashmob dance!

Last modified: June 2, 2017

The Theatre and Circus (T&C) area is proud to announce its 2017 programme, packed full of the very best in comedy, circus, theatre and dance, as well as offering some of the country’s top interactive performance artists. In no time at all, over 1,000 performers and hundreds of crew will be ready and waiting to raise the curtain and cue the lights for the greatest ever show on turf.

Come and join us in Glebeland on the Thursday at 4pm for this year’s T&C flashmob dance (above), dedicated to Barry Gibb ahead of his Glastonbury 2017 slot, and featuring the iconic 70s Bee Gees hit, Stayin’ Alive.

You can also dust off your Travolta moves on Sunday 25th, when Gibb plays his Pyramid Stage slot. Keep a look out for the security team as they bust out those classic disco moves.

A big thank you to Charlie Dancey for creating the lovely T&C posters, based on the beautiful photography of T&C’s very own lensman Charles Gervais, and thanks also to Lauren Filer and Exception-Elle Breakdance for bringing the flashmob to life.
