Recharge your activism: Left Field line-up announced

Last modified: May 25, 2016

The election of Jeremy Corbyn as Labour leader has galvanised a new generation of activists and this year at Left Field we aim to give them a platform to discuss issues around social justice, the economy, gender and the possibilities for genuine change under a Corbyn government.

With the results of the referendum on our membership of the European Union due to be declared during the festival, we’ll be trying to make sense of what the outcome means for Britain and its people. Whether we vote to leave or remain, the issue of how we respond to those who come to our continent seeking asylum will not go away and we’ll be addressing the issue of our responsibilities to those who come seeking our help.

And for the first time, Left Field will be hosting a panel of young speakers from the Green Kids Field who will be coming down to tell us about the things that are important to them.

We’ve got great live music from bands with something to say, comedians who pull no punches and our ever popular Radical Round Up, which draws in singer-songwriters who want to change the world. So come down and spend an hour or two under our big top tent and recharge your activism.

Design our ‘Don’t Pee’ campaign logo – win Glastonbury tickets

Last modified: April 28, 2016

This year at Glastonbury Festival, we’re running a major campaign to discourage Festival goers from peeing on the land at Worthy Farm.

Urinating on the ground at Glastonbury causes toxic pollution of the water table, which affects local wildlife and fish.

The Environment Agency and the Festival monitor the water continuously and have the power to close the site if too many people have urinated and polluted the site. If people pee on the land, it really could threaten the future of the Festival.

So, this year, we will be introducing more urinals, and better signage to toilets, as well as stewards in hotspots for inappropriate peeing.

We’re also launching our campaign to educate Festival goers on why it’s so important that they do not pee on the land. And for that campaign, we need a new logo. Which is where you come in!

We’re asking you to design a logo for our campaign to discourage people from peeing on the land, then email or post it to us. The creator of the chosen design will win two tickets to Glastonbury Festival 2016, plus accommodation for two in our Worthy View pre-erected campsite.

What you need to know:

– The logo must be square (or fit within a square)
– If being emailed, the logo can be no bigger than 4MB and must be in JPEG, PNG or PDF format.
– The design must be entirely the entrant’s own work
– The design must not infringe or violate the rights of any third party
– The logo contest is only open to UK residents aged 18 or over
– Your entry must be received by 9.59am on Monday, May 9th 2016.

For full terms and conditions, please click here.

There are two ways to enter:

1. Email your design to competitions@glastonburyfestivals.co.uk with “Don’t Pee Competition” in the subject title with your design for the Don’t Pee logo attached. Emails should include your name, postal address, email address and contact number.

2. Post your design to Don’t Pee Logo, PO BOX 4288, Shepton Mallet, BA4 9BB and include your name, postal address, email address and contact number.

Glastonbury launches reusable British steel pint cups

Last modified: June 15, 2019

After three years of trial and research, Glastonbury Festival is delighted to launch a sustainable, recycled stainless steel pint cup for use on a major scale at this year’s event.

Over 200,000 cups will be in circulation in ten major bars across the site, with customers paying £5 for a steel cup, available from WaterAid kiosks. These can be returned for a full refund at Information points.

The Festival’s Green Initiatives and Sustainability Coordinator Lucy Smith (pictured with Michael Eavis, above) says: “Everybody said we couldn’t do it with something  on the scale of Glastonbury and it has been a major fight to get this scheme off the ground, dealing with everything from weights and measures to crushability tests.

“But for us, it’s part of the reusable revolution. It’s very similar to paying 5p for a carrier bag. We think people will take to it. The pints are made by APS in Birmingham, and it was a significant part of the project to have them made with British stainless steel.”

For the Festival, the question of how to reduce the amount of waste – in particular pint beer cups – has always been a challenging one. But the stainless pints are the first of their kind and are made of food grade 80 per cent recycled British stainless steel. When Festival-goers need a refill, they will be able to swap their cup for a fresh one.

Says Lucy: “Michael (Eavis) wanted to support the British steel industry, and what we got was much higher, more consistent quality. The difference is clear in the quality of the steel. APS made the cups on a press previously used to make Land Rover parts.”

The local support for the cup project extends to Street, where sheepskin and leather manufacturers Owen Barry have been commissioned to provide designer ‘cup covers’ for the project.

Adds Festival organiser Michael Eavis: “I’m told the cup initiative is a bit of a revolution. But for me, the single most important thing was being able to source British stainless steel for the cups from the place where it was invented – Sheffield, and then to take it on to the home of manufacture – Birmingham.”

“Week after week, there’s a story in the national press about jobs in the UK steel industry being put at risk. There’s seemingly no end to the negative slide of this critical industry, and if the jobs, skills and infrastructure are lost they won’t be replaced.”

“We’ve worked on this project over the last three years, which will hopefully encourage other UK businesses to think about how they can support our steel industry during these very challenging times.”

The band wins a slot on one of the Festival’s main stages, plus a £5,000 Talent Development prize from the PRS Foundation.

2016 Ticket Resale FAQ

Last modified: April 9, 2016

As we announced this week, the resale of cancelled/refunded tickets will take place on Thur, 14th April (coach + ticket packages) and Sun, 17th April (standard tickets). Here are the answers to some of the most Frequently Asked Questions about the resale.

WHAT IS THE TICKET RESALE?

Following our balance payment window, we will be selling a limited number tickets for which the balance was not settled. These will consist of general admission tickets and coach + ticket packages.

WHEN IS THE RESALE?

The resale of returned coach packages will take place at 6pm (BST) on Thursday 14th April.

The resale of returned general admission tickets will take place at 9am (BST) on Sunday 17th April.

WHERE CAN I BUY A TICKET?

The resale will only be available at glastonbury.seetickets.com

HOW MUCH DO TICKETS COST?

Tickets cost £228 + £5 booking per person. Secure delivery of general admission tickets is charged at £7.75 postage per order. (Coach package e-Ticket delivery is £1.50 per order.) A list of coach prices can be found here (you’ll need to add the price of the Festival ticket too).

HOW MANY TICKETS CAN I BUY IN THE RESALE?

In the general admission resale on 17th April you may purchase up to 4 tickets per transaction – but remember that you can only book one ticket per registration. So if you plan to book for a group of four friends, you will need all their registration numbers and registered postcodes, too – get them ready now.

The coach package sale on 14th April will be limited to 2 tickets per transaction, to reflect the limited number of seats available per coach. Again, you will need the registration number for each ticket you are booking.

HOW MANY TICKETS WILL BE IN THE RESALE?

As in previous years, the exact number of tickets in the resale will not be announced. But it is a limited quantity.

Please note, See is running more than 300 coaches to the Festival, and the coach package tickets are spread across these. As it’s likely that people will be attempting to buy these very limited packages at the same time, it may be that someone else manages to complete the purchase before you do. A purchase is only confirmed when payment has been successfully processed.

DO I NEED TO PAY THE FULL BALANCE IN THE RESALE, OR CAN I JUST PAY A DEPOSIT?

Tickets bought in the resale must be paid for in full, by debit card if your lead booker has a UK registration, or by credit card if your lead booker has an international registration. Please note, UK buyers cannot pay with a credit card.

DO WE NEED TO BE REGISTERED FOR THE RESALE?

Yes. Everyone for whom you are booking must be registered.

If you are already registered you can use your existing registration number and do not re-register. We advise you check your details online prior to registration closing, in case you need to provide any new details.

If you are not already registered please register online by April 11th to allow sufficient time to have your photo approved before registration closes at 5pm BST on April 13th.

WHICH TOWNS AND CITIES ARE COVERED BY THE COACH PACKAGES?

The coach packages, provided by Seetickets, will be from the towns listed here. Please note the prices indicated are for the coach travel only – you will need to add the cost of the Festival ticket to this to create the package price.

NB: Coach travel to the Festival is also available from National Express.

IF I BOOK A COACH PACKAGE DO I HAVE TO TRAVEL ON THE COACH?

Yes. For coach packages you will only be sent your coach tickets in advance – your Festival entry tickets will be handed out on the coach.

Travel on your chosen coach is mandatory. Please do not book a coach package unless you are certain you will be able to travel on the coach you have selected.

WHAT IF THE COACH PACKAGE I WANT IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE?

We would strongly advise you only book a coach package which it is feasible for you to travel on, as bookings cannot be transferred, and your Festival tickets will be reliant on you travelling on the correct coach.

CAN I BOOK COACH PACKAGES FROM DIFFERENT DESTINATIONS AT THE SAME TIME?

No, you can only book coach packages from one destination in one transaction.

CAN I BOOK A COACH SEAT FOR MY CHILD OR DEAF AND DISABLED PA TO TRAVEL WITH ME IF THEY DON’T HAVE A FESTIVAL TICKET?

All passengers including children aged 12 and under, and Personal Assistants allocated tickets under the Disabled PA scheme, must purchase a valid coach ticket in order to travel. If you are travelling with children aged 12 or under, who do not require an entry ticket for the festival, or a PA allocated tickets by the Disabled Access Coordinator you will need to contact coachtravel@seetickets.com upon completing your booking in order to enquire about additional coach seats (NB: standard fares apply). Please note Coach Seats are now severely limited, and See cannot guarantee there will be any availability on your coach. See Tickets also cannot guarantee all coaches will have wheelchair access and storage facilities. If you require wheelchair access or wheelchair storage you must contact coachtravel@seetickets.com no later than 30 days prior to departure to ensure the appropriate facilities can be provided.

CAN I STILL BOOK A CAMPERVAN, TIPI OR CAR PARK TICKET?

Car park tickets will be available during the general admission resale on Sunday 17th April. Any campervan and tipi cancellations will go back on sale immediately after the general admission resale at glastonbury.seetickets.com. Naturally you won’t be able to book car parking or campervan parking if you’re booking a coach package, though.

CAN I STILL BUY A WATER BOTTLE IN THE RESALES?

Yes! All taps across the Festival site provide safe drinking water, and this year we are once again working together with WaterAid and the Raw Foundation to produce a reusable 532ml stainless steel water bottle.
