Tree Stage Gallery

 A SPACE TO DREAM

If you go down to Woodsies tonight, you’re sure of an ambient surprise

“Ambient music has always been in the DNA of Glastonbury. It is a genre that we associate with some of the Festival’s earliest performers – see the trippy psychedelia of Gong and Hawkwind – right through to ravers like the Orb and Orbital, who took over the Pyramid Stage in the 1990s, and dozens of artists who crop up every year in the Glade or Block9. Now ambient has its own dedicated arena at Glastonbury: the Tree Stage – not in one of the ravier areas of the site, but next to its most rock-friendly big  top, Woodsies.”

Words by John Lewis, Glastonbury free press.

The new open air venue at In the Woodsies area … the Tree Stage was a refreshing moment to stumble upon and for some acted as a vessel for contemplation and spaciousness… some people gently drifting off into their own pathways of imagination… or finding themselves in a this ‘inner’ world of intimacy – others felt like expanding electricity.

Around the tree, 20 speakers are arranged into two concentric circles, creating a “quadraphonic audio” experience that immersed festival goers in the stage’s lineup of ambient and experimental music. This ambience is a deep listening experience. It’s mediative, immersive, experimental…

The build is essentially a woodhenge…it has that feeling of being in a temple, the symbolic tree totem centralised in full resonance then up through the trees and beyond the sky. The tree canopy designed by @inorbitdecor is gently billowing in the wind eight metres high, it lightly contains the audience but doesn’t impose…

“Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and right doing there is a field. I’ll meet you there. When the soul lies down in that grass the world is too full to talk about.” – Rumi

See you next year for more magick !
